St. Mary of the Mount Church & St. Adalbert Church
For several years, we have been growing together into a new reality. We are now no longer members of Prince of Peace or Saint Mary of the Mount parishes. Like so many of the disciples and holy people of the Scriptures, we have been offered a new identity: Mary, Queen of Peace Parish.
Growing into this identity has meant many different things on so many different levels. For some of us, it has meant exploring new worship spaces. Others may have built or joined new ministries. Many have made new friends or even encountered new challenges. The way we see ourselves has changed.
That “seeing anew” takes on a concrete form as we embrace a new “look” via a new logo!
Image has power to unite us, as well as power to help us imagine the future. In order to help us begin to “see” and imagine together, we’d like to take an opportunity to point out some meaningful dimensions of the image.
Doves
First, you’ll notice that the image is shaped as doves moving toward one another. Doves commonly represent peace. These doves are meant to help us call on the intercession of our patroness, Mary, Queen of Peace.
You may also notice that one dove appears to be looking backward, while one flies forward. This helps keep before us the equally important tasks of honoring our heritage and what has come before, as well as moving toward the future with courage and hope.
Hands
This image also evokes hands reaching toward one another. On the most basic level, hands reaching for one another remind us of the need to seek community and move outside ourselves.
Significant in a special way for our parish, however, the hands honor our Deaf Community whose language of ASL is “spoken” through hands.
Hands also remind us of our Covenant imagery-that we are a people of purpose, a people of prayer and action.
Shading
You’ll notice that there are different shades at play within the doves/hands. This is intentional and aims to remind us that the Church is catholic; that is, the Catholic Church is meant to be catholic in its welcome and in its reach. We are a people who seek to honor diversity within unity and unity within diversity.
Font
The font places a special emphasis on the sacred name of “Mary,” as well as on her title “Queen of Peace.” Her regal queenliness grounds us in dignity, helping us remember and work for both our own dignity, as well as the dignity of others, especially the marginalized. Her type of queenliness seeks peace. As both queen and seeker of peace, we honor Mary as both strong and nurturing. This sense of Mary helps direct our own identity as workers for justice, seeking peace, as well as people of sanctuary, offering welcome to anyone seeking God.
