St. Mary of the Mount Church & St. Adalbert Church
A Centering Prayer group is forming now at Mary, Queen of Peace! As a form of contemplative prayer, Centering Prayer offers a space, a practice, and a community with which to listen for God in a restful and receptive way.
As Contemplative Outreach describes it, “Centering prayer is a method designed to facilitate the development of contemplative prayer by preparing our faculties to receive this gift. It presents ancient Christian wisdom teachings in an updated form. Centering prayer is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer; rather it casts a new light and depth of meaning on them. It is at the same time a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. This method of prayer is a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with him.”
Joining a community of people praying together in this way is an excellent way to invest in the first value of our Community Covenant: “We Pray.” Through Centering Prayer, we learn how to be more present to God, deepening our relationship.
A typical Centering Prayer session at Mary, Queen of Peace would include:
The entire session lasts about one hour and fifteen minutes.
If you have been seeking deeper community, an ongoing spiritual practice, and a more regular engagement with the Sunday Scriptures, this is the group to try!
